Pease Porridge Hot

Pease-porridge hot,
Pease-porridge cold,
Pease-porridge in the pot,
Nine days old;
Some like it hot,
Some like it cold,
Some like it in the pot,
Nine days old.

History:

The genesis of this rhyme are mysterious; it takes its name from a kind of porridge prepared from peas, pease pudding, also recognized as pease pottage (in Middle English, "pease" was treated as a combined noun, comparable to "oatmeal" and it is from that we obtain the singular pea and plural peas). Anywhere the terms "pease pudding" and "pease pottage" are used, the words of the rhyme are changed consequently.
